Indole-3-Carbinol
Indole-3-carbinol is a potent antioxidant which helps reduce oxidative stress exerted by free radicals. It also supports estrogen metabolism. Indole-3-carbinol (I3C) is the phytochemical responsible for the antioxidant properties of the family of vegetables known as Brassicaceae (formerly Cruciferae), which includes broccoli, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, kale, and cauliflower. Indole-3-carbinol is an organic compound formed as a result of the action of the enzyme myrosinase with the precursor compound indole-3-glucosinolate within these vegetables upon maceration (crushing). The antioxidant activity of indole-3-carbinol protects cells, including their DNA, from the effects of environmental toxins we are exposed to on a daily basis. Research in both Europe and North America has demonstrated a correlation between the consumption of cruciferous vegetables and disease risk. This makes supplementation with indole-3-carbinol well worth exploring for your commitment to good health.
The founder of New Roots Herbal, Peter Wilkes, began working in the health-food industry back in 1973. In 1977, he opened his own health food store in Calgary, which, at that time, was the largest health food store in North America. Since then, his focus has changed from selling health products to developing his own through his New Roots Herbal brand. In fact, the very name symbolizes a rejuvenation of the body and mind. New Roots Herbal wants to help you transform your old, harmful habits into healthy new beginnings. When Peter originally started New Roots Herbal, he only had one product: a body rejuvenation program. However, as its popularity exploded, so did his company. Today, New Roots Herbal manufactures more than 300 different health products. They also created the Choose to Care program, which donates over $124,000 every year to various environmental foundations and charities.
